The main objective of this WP is to develop novel or improved technologies, which accelerate the biodegradation of hydrocarbons in contaminated sediments. WP5 will address a range of contamination scenarios, i.e., from “freshly” contaminated sediments to those subjected to chronic pollution, and climate regions, i.e., from Mediterranean to Norwegian sea.
Major objectives:
The focus is on the enhancement of biodegradation rates in contaminated sediments by providing:
- extra electron acceptors such as solid electrodes or oxygen
- infauna
- micro/macro nutrients, possibly in combination with contaminant mobilizing agents
- controlled environmental conditions
